Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini is modest and won’t say the team is a title contender. Despite currently leading the table football.
Atalanta beat Parma 3-1 in Serie A on Saturday to move top of the table ahead of Napoli’s clash. With Roma later in the day, but Gasperini is still eyeing the title for now UFABET
“There is no doubt it was a good performance and the performance in the first half was also excellent. Maybe we could have scored more,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.
“The second half started with a goal conceded which allowed Parma to come back into the game. But we soon took control of the game and scored the third goal. You can’t turn every chance into a goal. But the team that creates more chances has a better chance of winning.”
This season has been the best start in the club’s history with 28 points and 34 goals from the first 13 games. And there has been talk of a title triumph. But Gasperini is reluctant to talk about that at the moment.
“I’m not ready to make those comparisons now. Maybe towards the end of my career, if we talk about Gomez, Ilicic, Zapata and Muriel. The teams that almost reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and the teams that won the Europa League,”
“It’s the same as what you asked me about the Scudetto. We have to focus on winning every game we can. The rest is not really in our heads. That’s what happened. In the Europa League as well. At first we didn’t think we could win it. But as time went by and we found out we were there. We won’t hesitate either.”
